POLITICIANS ARE BETRAYING AMERICA
HOW MANY MEMBERS OF CONGRESS HAVE LOST CHILDREN IN IRAQ OR EVEN HAVE CHILDREN IN THE MILITARY? Answer: No losses I'm aware of and only a handful in the military US House of Representatives voted on Friday, November 18, 2005, defeating a non-binding resolution, 403 - 5 calling for “immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq“. I have no idea what the remaining 29 Representatives were doing that did not vote, some probably had a case of severe backbone infection, jaundice, or some other disease that turned them yellow. One wonders how many of the 403 that rejected immediate withdrawal from Iraq also suffered from exposure to light, so they covered their eyes, stuck their head further in the sand, and voted “no” to protect their own personal backsides. Does anyone seriously believe that politicians in Washington, D.C. give a damn about our troops; or put the troops well being uppermost before opening their two-sided mouths; or for that matter giving any deep thought to the impact of their anti-war, anti-this, anti-that pronouncements? If they did, they would keep their uninformed anti-America propaganda to themselves, as I truly believe most of Congress has no "personal" understanding of war, the consequences, nor do they want to learn. There are more Politicians than I care to mention that are bad-mouthing everything possible about the war in Iraq, nothing is working, the war was a mistake, always playing the death rate card, never anything positive, even though there was unanimous approval in both Houses of Congress supporting the Iraqi action. Oh I know, the worn out argument WMD was not found so ‘we were deceived“ or worse….horse manure. Our politicians may think we are mushrooms and can be pushed to the corner and fed “the political feces”…I pray we won’t let them get away with it... Within my life-time I can remember the time-honored unwritten policy of an America that stopped any politician from criticizing our government, leaders or policy, beyond our shores…particularly during war. It is now common for Congressmen, former Presidents, other former officials, not only at home in America, but willingly stand behind the podium in foreign nations, under foreign flags, and criticize America in a shameless fashion, while nearby American troops are dying. Having served two tours in Viet Nam, I can attest to what the media, anti-war efforts, ignorant politicians, dime-store strategists/tacticians, and other back-stabbing officials do to the morale of the troops, their safety, while emboldening the enemy. It takes no rocket scientist to recognize the constant drum-beat, shrill anti-war voices, pontificating from ancient Congressmen such as Murtha, D-PA, or anti-America statements from ex-president Bill Clinton, and others on foreign soil. The result is putting our troops at a disadvantage, making them question the resolve of the nation that sent them to battle and adding threat to their lives. Is it unreasonable for our troops in harms way to wonder how they can be asked to lay down their life while a bunch of jerks in Congress make asinine pronouncements which encourage the enemy…the bottom line is the troops are saying “my life is too important to be cannon fodder for the selfish personal whims of politicians”…no one can blame them, many experienced the feeling in Viet Nam. Old politicians such as Congressman Murtha who have military background should know better than to make statements of a personal opinion that negatively impact our troops. But on the other hand, thousands have been asking politicians that "talk the talk to walk the walk"....Murtha is not a cosponsor of HR602, Keep Our Promise To America‘s Military Retirees Act...he talks but doesn't walk...His military service was admirable, that was then, now is now....now he‘s a traitor....Murtha has been a career politician for decades......he has the virus that all Congressmen catch shortly after their freshman year.......the virus wipes their brain clean and they become slaves to political masters, eventually becoming "masters" in their own right, worthless and harmful to America. Do we need any more evidence to throw incumbents out in 2006? Do “term limits” appear more apparent than ever? Is anything more shameful than politicians who betray warriors, their spouses and widows? I think not! Harry Riley, COL, USA, Ret. My Marine son was wounded in Fallujah in
Dec, 04. He will have permanent
disability the rest of his life. He
is proud of the work he did and wishes he
could go back to continue the mission.
We, his parents, are button-popping proud
of him. The democrats and
left-wingers who dishonor our President
and are against this war are NOT
supporting our troops - no matter how
fluffy they try to make their words.
To truly HONOR the fine men and women who
are fighting for your right to
ignorance, and to honor the surviving families whose husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers have given the supreme sacrifice, you MUST support our President's position and allow the mission to continue through to completion. Renee Lueck I agree with you that not one Republican currently in office deserves to be re-elected. I'm aware that the Democrats are talking a pretty story about what the Military retirees need and should have, but most are doing so only as a "prick" in the side of the Republicans. Congress has become self-righteous, self-concerned, and non-caring more than any Congress that I can remember in the past. They are not concerned about us......as long as they get their money for their "pork" projects.
They are blowing smoke so badly in this
congress they have no idea what is going
on in the real world in which we live. I
will not vote Republican in this upcoming
election or the 2008 election.
Somehow, they have to be woke up to their
foolishness.

It is now a matter of record of those
elected officials who voted to cut and run
from Iraq - a minority of 40. Yet most
of these elected officials, Kerry, Kennedy,
Reid, Clinton, Pelosi and what others have
been saying for years that Saddam posed a
threat (a matter of record) with WMD.
These same elected officials voted that is
was necessary to stop Saddam and voted to do
so. Now, why are they changing their
minds that we should pull out of Iraq and
that the War in Iraq was a mistake? Do they
belong to the double minded class that the
Bible says "a double minded person is
unstable in all of their ways".
Does honesty and integrity belong in the
same class as some doubled minded
politicians? I read your post "Politicians Are Betraying America", and as a decorated combat veteran of Vietnam, serving with the 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division in Pleiku, Vietnam during '66-'67, I could not possibly agree more with your statements. How can anyone of good conscience, such as Congressman Murtha make statements such as he has, and thus emboldening the enemy after apparent service in Vietnam? Thank you for making your thoughts known!

Perhaps the politicians who are able to read words, containing more than one syllable, will read your statement to the others, who are unable to read at all. Even then, I seriously doubt any will understand it. Also hope the "non-binding" (in case something goes wrong) vote provides Republicans with the incentive to respond to Democrats with "well you voted that we stay, so shut up".
But then, I dream on. Again, thank
you. Semper Fi

Ahoy Col. Riley,
My thought is that Rep. Murtha must suffer
from a debilitating disease which afflicts many
of his age, Alzheimer's. Why else would he
go on such a senseless, inane, "give aid
and comfort to the enemy" tirade? If
he was of his right mind, he would know better
than to walk along the edge of committing
treason, or sedition, and he's a Marine Viet
vet? He's following the same path as the
doves in Congress did during that era when he
was serving in 'Nam. He's gotta be sick. Even
an upcoming election is no excuse to blatantly
excoriate the Commander in Chief in public.

Once again you are right on the button on this one Harry. I have watched the Congress over the last forty years go from one with many former military who understood and supported the Troops, not only in action but in deed, to one with few military and not a clue of the needs or the actions necessary to support our military and in so doing to keep us strong. Not only do I question the resolve of our nation with jerks like these in Congress, I question whether we can long remain the strongest, most freedom loving nation on earth. I cast the blame directly on a Congress that let our troops and country down during and after the Viet Nam War and a media made up of cowards and self serving cry-babies of the me, now generation. Sadly, they are the product of the so-called "Greatest Generation", our own fathers, brothers, uncles, grand-fathers who saved the world in WWII. They never seem to learn that war in whatever form is a dirty business and that it is our children and our professional soldiers who like policemen and firemen, who step up to the line and volunteer to protect the rest of us and keep our country strong. These spineless jerks are interested only in their own comfort, have no values of their own and can pass down nothing of value to their offspring because they have never really earned that right by defending their country or standing up to oppression in all its forms. How do they stand themselves? How do we who know better, stand them?
Thank you once again
Colonel for calling it the way WE see it.

When you talk of a certain number of sponsors to a bill, this means nothing. For example, when the Concurrent Receipt bill was before congress, 80 Senators and 403 Representatives were sponsors. President Bush threatened to veto the bill it was passed so they all turned yellow and would not buck their boss so this means nothing. I was taught in school that a majority of both ( which they had) can override a veto. I talked to one rep when he was running for office. He assured me that he would back Concurrent Receipt but when he got there, he would not buck the Party and vote for it. He was a sponsor but would not sign the discharge petition to get it to a vote. The Dems forced a vote but they did it only to embarrass the President as the prohibition of CR has been on the books for 110 years and when they were in power, they did nothing. I contend that the only difference in a Republican and a Democrat is the name. All pols do the same thing They care only of themselves and their friends and not about the rest of the people. I wonder if we will ever have a government of the people by the people, not professional pols. But then again, the people are fools because they vote the same ones in each time. They do not realize that there are other parties. Those that do realize this will tell you that you lose your vote if you vote for other than a Dem or Rep. The whole country has gone to hell and I wonder if the 28 years I served between 1942 and 1974 was worth the effort. Too many young folks do not know the price of freedom. They think it comes naturally. Somehow they must be convinced that this country cannot last very much longer at the way it is being run. I am 83 years old and I will not see a lot of the bad changes but I have seen my share and I know there are more to come. I saw in today's paper that all Congressmen will get a $3100
pay raise
for screwing up the country . I think
that I can screw it up for less than $165,000 year.

Thanks Harry - You nailed the acts of these "Professional Politicians" quite accurately, "Right on the Head." I agree totally with every thing you wrote, except your last sentence, where you stated, "Is anything more shameful than politicians who betray warriors, their spouses and widows? I think not!" In my opinion there is no doubt those that will do acts of this type are definitely the "Scum of the Earth" and traitors to our Defenders of Freedom as well as traitors of America.
Term limits for
"Career Politicians" should be enacted at
the earliest possible date. I would also suggest that
once a person served and met the limits specified
there should be no cross over into any other elected
position, with possibly running for president as the
only exception. As I understand the intent of our
"Founding Fathers" they did not intend
to have professional politicians ,
in America, as they stated in, a government, "By
the People, Of the People, and For the People. "
It is past time for "The People" to take
back their government from those self serving
elected individuals that would sell their soles
while selling America's Sovereignty to foreign
interests in order to satisfy their short term greed
to get re-elected. Therefore, it is imperative that we elect
people that truly represent the interests of the American
people.
I just saw the
evening news showing the disorderly conduct of members
of the House on the House floor. They were an embarrassment
to the offices they hold and embarrassment to
America's form of government. I expect more from our
elected officials. They
were a disgrace to America.
I hope the American
voters will vote against all incumbents since they
have failed miserably in "Keeping the
Promises to America's Retirees Act", to
veterans as well as in other areas, this
includes my Congressman Richard Pombo who has also
failed to become a co-sponsor of HR-602. Anyone
signing on at this late date, will appear to only be
signing on as a political opportunist, unless
this legislation is signed into law and is fully
funded. Otherwise, it will makes them appear, and
rightfully so, as playing their little silly parliamentary
games with veterans legislation.
Be assured that the
"Pork Barrel" will be rolling out of Washington
between now and election day next year. Americans are
saying enough is enough.
May God Bless
America.

Look, I damn well do not agree with Col. Murtha, but how in hell can you call the man a traitor? You started out by very properly pointing out that most politicians never saw a day of combat or have any close relative in uniform. At the very top of that list are the President and Vice President. Wouldn't it be nice if one of Bush's daughters or one of his many nieces and nephews enlisted? If you don't mind my saying it, you have a hell of a lot of nerve calling a man who served in two wars, who volunteered for active duty in both of them and who was wounded and decorated, a traitor. You don't like Bush, so why are you using the same tactics that he used against John McCain and that his party used against Max Cleland? Bush and company have messed up this war from start to now. When the Army Chief of Staff told Congress in 2003 that we would need 300,000 troops in Iraq for five years, Rumsfeld called him "stupid" in public. Who in hell is stupid now? And just in case you are interested, I served in Vietnam, in Peru during the height of the communist guerilla war, in El Salvador during the civil war, in Bosnia during the peace keeping effort and all over the Middle East in an anti terrorist role, to include during Desert Storm, for 13 years.

Comment: Traitor in my opinion fits for the act Murtha committed "now"...his prior military experience makes his "betrayal of trust" more grevious in that his action contributes to "defeat of our troops", thus aid and comfort to the enemy, thus approaching treason. Harry Riley Thank
you, Colonel, for calling it like it is. Please keep
writing and spreading the word like you have done below. Col Riley,
It took some searching, but I managed to track down the names
of those Representatives voting for immediate
withdrawal of our troops from Iraq.
"Three Democrats, Jose Serrano of New York,
Robert Wexler of Florida and Cynthia McKinney of Georgia,
voted for withdrawal."
Six voted present: Reps. Jim McDermott of Washington;
Jerrold Nadler, Maurice Hinchey and Major Owens of New
York; Michael Capuano of Massachusetts and William Lacy
Clay of Missouri.
But what was the status, and names, of the other 23
Representatives?

Comment: Thanks Ladd for sorting out some of the traitors...we can only hope these will feel the wrath of citizens/voters now and in 2006 election. Harry Riley God bless COL Riley.
When will the rest of real America stand at attention to
salute, support, and join those fighting for liberty and
justice for all, here in America and around the globe.
Cy Huerter, Highland, Indiana I could not agree with you more. The Congress is full of Eunuch's who are afraid to defend America.
If we are forced out of
Iraq due to the lack of political will, then we should cut the
Pentagon's budget to 25% of its present level. If we're not
going to use the weapons at our disposal then we don't need
them, nor do we need to invest in any new weapons.
Let the rest of the world
take care of their own defense instead of Dialing USA 911.
We could have won this war
quickly by fighting an unlimited war. The Sunni Triangle should
have been leveled on day one.
If you ask me we would have
been better off, if the Plane that crashed in Pennsylvania on
September 11th made it to the Capital. Maybe then the Congress
would have gotten the message.
All of this is driven by
the leftist press and their fellow travelers in Hollywood. The
Press has become the forth Branch of Government, but is not
subject to any checks and balances. It's time that was fixed.

Way to go Col... I have a grandson who just returned from a 7 month deployment in Iraq.. And is very upset as to how the brave politicians are attacking the troops and not supporting them....My family is very proud of him and all the troops...His friend was killed there shortly after he got there.
I believe our ex-pres is still the
same coward he was when he was in office, how many times was our
countrymen killed while he was president and how many times did he
turn his cowardly back on them..... Keep going Col...

Comment: I salute you, your Grandson and all your family for service to our nation. Harry Riley Colonel Riley: I wasn't in "Nam", but "Korea" was part of my military service portfolio. I am among many that believe the War in Iraq was for all the wrong reasons. I believe that we are not doing everything we can to put and end to this fracas. Hell, the so called enemy is coming into Iraq from all directions and the administration is doing nothing to stop the flow of terrorists to Iraq and their means to carry out their dastardly missions. Course aside from using our nuclear capability we don't have the necessary troops on board to do the job that is necessary. President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld and others are too busy trying to appease middle east sheiks and religious leaders who control vast sources of black gold. Hell we are in war - let's get it on and get it over with. Lets crank up the draft and let everybody participate in the war - course that "ain't" being politically correct. We didn't win in Korea (we are still there after 50+ years and still looking down their rifle barrels) and Vietnam because politicians wouldn't allow it to happen. Too afraid if they did the right thing, they could not return to their cushy Washington confines. Course maybe the opinion of a 77 year old who served his country honorably and faithfully for 22+ years doesn't mean a hill of beans in this day and age. Paul (Alamogordo) Comment: I agree totally........Harry Riley Yepper my friend; that's telling it pretty much like it is. I wonder if those not in the choir will comprehend your candid message? I'll venture even some in the choir don't get it. And....... That is sad. (-:
